University of Co-operative and Management, Sagaing (UCMS) traces its distinguished origins to 1982 when it was established as Sagaing Co-operative Training School, serving Chin State, Kachin State, and Sagaing Division. Located in Shwe Thamar Quarter (now Ywahtaung Quarter) on the Monywa-Mandalay Highway Road, Sagaing Township, the institution was upgraded to Co-operative College in 1996.
In 2012, President U Thein Sein's historic visit to Sagaing led to its elevation as Co-operative University, Sagaing โ a special university dedicated to cooperative and management education. On 5th November 2021, it was renamed University of Co-operative and Management, Sagaing. UCMS offers Bachelor of Business Science (B.B.Sc.) with five specializations (Commerce, Co-operative Studies, Economics, Management Studies, Statistics), postgraduate diplomas (PGDip), and master's programmes. With 80+ academic staff and 1,200+ students, UCMS accepts 300 students annually and has produced 8,000+ graduates serving as cooperative leaders, social entrepreneurs, business managers, government officials, and development specialists across Myanmar. The university maintains close ties with the Ministry of Co-operatives, cooperative banks, and international development organizations.
