University of Medical Technology, Yangon (UMTY) is Myanmar's first and premier institution for allied health professionals. Established in 1993 as the Institute of Paramedical Science, UMTY trains ~150 students annually across three core specializations: Medical Imaging Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Physiotherapy.
Unlike medical universities, UMTY offers 4-year Bachelor of Medical Technology (B.Med.Tech) degrees with a unique system: students study basic sciences in Year 1, then choose their major based on merit. Clinical training occurs at Yangon General Hospital and other major facilities.

Medical Imaging Technology
B.Med.Tech4-year degree specializing in X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound. Year 1: Basic sciences. Years 2-4: Advanced imaging physics, radiographic techniques, sectional anatomy. Clinical rotations at Yangon General Hospital (920+ hours).
Medical Laboratory Technology
B.Med.Tech4-year degree in clinical laboratory sciences โ hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology. Essential for hospital lab operations and diagnostics.
Physiotherapy
B.Med.Tech / BP.Sc4-year degree in rehabilitation sciences. Covers musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary physiotherapy with extensive hands-on clinical practice.
