About MMMC
Myanmar Mercantile Marine College (MMMC) is Myanmar's principal maritime training institution, responsible for producing deck officers, marine engineers, and marine electrical engineers for both domestic and international shipping industries. Its roots trace back to 1963, when nautical and engineering courses were first conducted at the Naval Training School in Seikyee, Yangon Division.
The Mercantile Marine Training School was formally established on 1 October 1971. In 1972, it came under the Ministry of Transport as the Institute of Marine Technology (IMT). A major organizational upgrade was approved in 2005, and the institution was re-branded as Myanmar Mercantile Marine College — MMMC — as it stands today.
Operating under the Ministry of Transport and Communications, MMMC aligns its curriculum with international maritime standards including the STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) framework. The college holds ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification, accredited through ABS-QE with ANAB accreditation.

Training History & Key Developments
How Myanmar's merchant marine training institution grew to its current form
Early Nautical and Engineering Courses
Nautical and marine engineering courses were first conducted at the Naval Training School, Seikyee in Yangon Division — the earliest roots of Myanmar's dedicated merchant marine cadet training.
Mercantile Marine Training School Established
Formally established on 1 October 1971 as a standalone merchant navy cadet training institution, marking the beginning of Myanmar's dedicated maritime academy separate from the naval training framework.
Institute of Marine Technology (IMT)
From 15 March 1972, the institution came under the Ministry of Transport as the Institute of Marine Technology (IMT), bringing it under government transport ministry oversight and aligning it with the national shipping development agenda.
Re-branded as Myanmar Mercantile Marine College (MMMC)
An organizational upgrade approved by the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) transformed the institution into a full college, giving it the current name: Myanmar Mercantile Marine College (MMMC), with expanded programs and formal diploma offerings.
ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
MMMC earned ISO 9001:2015 QMS certification through ABS-QE with ANAB accreditation — a formal recognition of the college's commitment to quality training standards aligned with international maritime education benchmarks.
2025–2026 Diploma Intake
MMMC continues to offer two-year diploma cadet courses for the 2025–2026 academic year across all three streams — Nautical (CD), Marine Engineering (CE), and Marine Electrical (CME) — announced through the Ministry of Information portal.
