Monywa University of Economics (MUE) was established on 1st July 1993 as Monywa Economics College with a noble mission: to provide accessible economics education to students from Upper Myanmar. Located on 200 acres of land near Za Loke village, east of Monywa and south of Kyaukka Road, the institution was upgraded to Monywa Institute of Economics on 28th September 1993.
On 3rd September 2014, the Ministry of Education renamed it Monywa University of Economics, recognizing its excellence in business and economics education. MUE became the first economics university in Myanmar to offer Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Full-time MBA programs, solidifying its reputation as one of the country's well-known economics universities in Upper Myanmar.
