History Timeline
From Technical High School to AUN-QA Certified Technological University
Founded as Technical High School (THS)
Established on 1 June 1989 during the State Peace and Development Council era, beginning technical education in Hmawbi.
Upgraded to Government Technical Institute (GTI)
On 23 October 1998, upgraded to produce middle-level technicians for the nation.
Government Technological College (GTC)
In January 2001, upgraded again to nurture technologists and engineers at bachelor level.
Technological University (Hmawbi)
On 20 January 2007, finally upgraded to Technological University status, offering full B.E. programs.
ISO 9001:2008 Certified
Received ISO 9001:2008 certification for Quality Management System from Bureau Veritas.
Under Ministry of Education
Transferred from Ministry of Science and Technology to Ministry of Education in April 2016.
AUN-QA Associate Member
On 25 March 2018, became associate member of ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance. Upgraded to ISO 9001:2015.
