University of Medicine 2, Yangon (UM2) was established on 15 July 1963 as Medical College 2 in Mingaladon Township, affiliated with Yangon University under the Ministry of Education. In 1964 it became an independent university, and in 1973 it was transferred to the Ministry of Health. In 2005, it was officially renamed University of Medicine 2, Yangon.
Today, UM2 stands as one of Myanmar's most selective universities, accepting only around 300 students per year โ an acceptance rate of approximately 10% โ based solely on University Entrance Examination scores. Recognized by ECFMG, WHO, and the Myanmar Medical Council, UM2's mission is clear: "To produce competent basic doctors and highly qualified post-graduate physicians."
