University of Medicine, Mandalay (UMMdy) is Myanmar's second-oldest medical university, established on 1 April 1954. After relocating to its current site in Chanayethazan in 1955 and becoming an independent Institute of Medicine in 1964 โ€” graduating its first M.B.,B.S. class of just 36 students โ€” it grew into one of the country's most prestigious medical institutions. In 2005 it was renamed University of Medicine, Mandalay.

Today UMMdy is recognized by ECFMG and serves Upper Myanmar's primary medical education needs, training ~300โ€“350 of the country's most competitive students each year across 13 affiliated teaching hospitals. Notably, students enter directly into the M.B.,B.S. program โ€” no foundation year required โ€” making it one of the most direct pathways to a medical degree in Myanmar.
