University of Medicine, Magway (UMMGY) is Myanmar's newest civilian medical university, established in 2008 as part of the national healthcare expansion policy. After 2012 reforms reduced intake from ~600 to just 99 students annually (serving Magway Region, Shan State East, Rakhine State, and Bago West only), UMMGY became Myanmar's most selective medical school while maintaining ECFMG recognition for international practice.
UMMGY serves Myanmar's central dry zone with 3 teaching hospitals and comprehensive clinical training, producing doctors specifically for underserved central and western regions.
